Apr 6 (Sat) – Kyle’s Car (Update)

Yesterday morning the dealership dropped the oil pan and…

update-pinned-to-wire.png… sent bearing measurements and photos to Hyundai. Yesterday afternoon Hyundai declared that the engine failed due to a product defect and that they will replace the engine at no cost. It may take some time for the replacement engine to arrive. A free loaner vehicle is part of the process of making things right for Kyle.

.

I also have some work to do to make things right for Kyle. First is his garage. The original wood lap siding is riddled with decay and holes that let vermin come and go at their leisure. I will block said holes so that the garage remains vermin-free. I’ll also adjust the double-wide garage door so that it fits snug against the opening.

.

The second thing is the engine harness on Kyle’s car. Vermin have chewed into the engine harness in several places. A few of those places even completely through, metal wires and all, parts of the harness dangling free. A new harness is not included in the engine replacement. A replacement harness is $3,000. That’s not a typo.

.

I’m sure it would be costly for the dealership to repair the existing harness but I don’t know. I’ll talk with them about this. I don’t want to take revenue from them but times are tough.

.

The ideal result will be if they let me repair the harness while it’s in the shop waiting for an engine. That way they can swap engines and do the required checkouts after the new engine is installed. Otherwise we’d have to have the car towed to my house where I’ll repair the harness. In this case I don’t know about the required checks.

.

Today I will start on the garage. Cheers.
