He has an order for five, he’s making them in several different colors. He should be done with the order by tomorrow. He found a way to cut the ‘burn time’ by just more than a half by the clever optimization of burn patterns in software. This, coupled with the higher power laser cutter, has made the print time reasonable. The lid is held down by three high strength rare earth button magnets. They are much stronger than I expected..
Once he finishes the boxes he’s going to work on a token holder. This picture is of a test piece for the holder. His first prototype had this piece made from several layers of wood each cut individually. He thought it might be worth trying to cut one piece of wood instead of five..
As you can see there’s some depth of cut tests, one of which punched all the way through in one pass. He’s not sure which way he’s gonna go (several thin layers or one thick block) but at least he’s engaged and interested in something, which is good to see.
