The Next Big Thing

I stahtid a project today.

11-11-23-project-text-over-blueprint.jpgI mentioned in an earlier post that Kim had proposed I do something about some stuff in the basement.

.

Her proposal has nothing to do with her craft space, that’s fine. It has everything to do with building workbenches for some of the power tools. I agree with her.

.

11-11-23-basement-wkbench-proj-before-pic-1.jpgWhat we want is for all that stuff to be moved away from the walls, build workbenches along those walls, then put the machinery on the workbenches. Then they can be used.

.

11-11-23-basement-wkbench-proj-before-pic-2.jpgThe workbenches will be made from a few scraps I bought at Habitat many moons ago, I’ll use as much scrap lumber as I can for legs and shelves and stuff.

.

11-11-23-basement-wkbench-proj-top-prep.jpgAfter clearing a space for the first bench I laid the first purchased bench top upside down on the floor and then transferred a rusty but robust length of angle iron from a salvaged headboard onto the underside of the bench top.

.

11-11-23-basement-wkbench-proj-top-propped.jpgI then moved a folding table into position against the wall, set the bench top on that, then shimmed the bench top until it was 36” from the floor at one leg, then shimmed the other three corners until the bench top was level in both directions.

.

11-11-23-basement-wkbench-proj-top-legged.jpgI measured and cut four legs then attached those to the table top. The final step was to slide the folding table and shims out from under the workbench. Simple stuff.

.

The next step is to epoxy the back of the workbench to the stone wall so it won’t move. Then I’ll move on to the next workbench.

.

I’ll eventually put outlets just above each workbench along with a toob that’ll run around the perimeter of the workshop for dust collection. That’ll be plumbed into the Delta dust collector you can see on the left side of the first basement picture. Stay tuned.
